BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) — The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) is working to expand Fairview Road near Cole Road.
The project is still in its early stages, but the ACHD is already negotiating with nearby businesses to purchase some of their parking spots.
Nicole Dubois, a spokeswoman for the ACHD, said Axiom and Albertson's will be losing a few parking spaces.
Many commuters say Fairview is a busy, busy road. The ACHD agrees, saying that during peak hours, nearly 30,000 cars drive through the intersection.
The intersection widening project is projected to begin in January, and will likely finish in the fall.
"We're going to be widening the intersection at Fairview and Cole," DuBois said. "We're going to be adding two dedicated left hand turn lanes and dedicated right hand turn lanes."
Details about the detours and road closures are not definitive at this point. But the ACHD said keeping the intersection open, for as long as possible, is a priority.
"We try not to close intersections if at all possible," DuBois said. "If we can do lane restrictions, so we're kind of working in one lane and are able to keep another lane open, then that's optimal for us. "
Despite the possible restrictions, commuters KBOI 2News spoke with said it's worth it.
One man saying, "I'm looking very forward to it actually, I think it will be very nice to see."
